Dear Southwest Region Members,
It is my pleasure to announce the
creation of a middle school young women’s festival for our region –
the “Sweet Harmony” festival! In response to several requests to
have a choral experience for our girls as we do for the boys with
Mucho Macho Music, the Sweet Harmony festival will be a day for
middle school treble voices to join in the power of music making
together. The festival will take place on Friday, November 20, 2009.
Deb Bicker at Burgettstown Area Middle/High School in northern
Washington County has graciously offered her newly renovated
facility as the site host. Our guest conductor for this year is
Washington and Jefferson College Director of Choral Activities, Dr.
Susan Medley. Susan, who also serves on ACDA-PA’s board as
Repertoire & Standards Chair for Colleges & Universities, is sure to
bring great energy to our girls, pushing them to make the best music
possible during the day.
As we have done each year with Mucho
Macho, we will also feature a collegiate guest performing group.
We’re delighted to welcome The University of Pittsburgh Women’s
Ensemble, under the direction of Lorraine Milovac, to come and work
with our young ladies. The Pitt Women will sit in rehearsal
alongside the middle school participants, and will also perform for
them during the day.
